Shorten the School Year

Vincent Gray, who is the mayor of Washington, D.C., which has some of the worst public schools in America, has an idea he believes will improve them: Keep children there longer.

When I was in elementary school, I hated attending class. But I learned things there.

However, I did not have the misfortune of attending an inner-city government-controlled school operated by overpaid members of a teachers union. I went to a Catholic school operated by Dominican sisters.

We did not need vast homework assignments because we did vast amounts of work at school. That was the entire purpose of those seven hours from 8:05 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The late afternoon was well-deserved playtime.

We played basketball. We played football. We played hide-and-go-seek. We played with our dogs. We traded baseball cards. We walked around the neighborhood and visited with our friends.

You could do that in those days — way back in the 1960s.

It’s for the children

No news, or who ate the dog.

The Wisconsin debacle blocked out the dog lovers race for president lately.
How many of you remember the story “No news or what killed the dog?

In other words, there is no news that is not reported on everywhere, and most of it is a joke. Or else it is redundant, and if you have been an ardent subscriber to this site, you already know it. Not that you shouldn’t keep up with the sites on our links.

But most of the original members of this group are crippled, dead, or dying. Most of us are poor and can’t keep buying new computers when they crash. Are we victims of attacks?

The Patriot Post and JWR have most of the best stuff that isn’t too far out, but we try to find the good stuff on other blogs. We sure could use some help from our new subscribers and members. A lot of young people are getting the word and these are the people we need to get involved. Or when we’re dead liberty dies with us.

The trouble with the lazy and dishonest is that they will work twice as hard to get out of work. Meaning that they not only don’t carry their weight, but they disrupt those who are trying to work.

Now for the fun part. The people who are working are too busy or greedy to defend themselves. They don’t want to get involved. None of the supposed patriot organizations want to work to reverse the trend of indoctrinating our young instead of educating them. How many of your groups have bought Citizen’s Rule Books or the like to pass out to youth? How many are working with EUSE? If the young are our most valuable resource, we better make sure it’s not all in the hands of the enemies of liberty!

Going After the Stupid Vote

So, what should we conclude from all of this? I think it’s fair to surmise based on the Gallup numbers that Republicans are the smartest Americans, that independents come in second, and that 46 percent of Democrats are too stupid to vote.

The bad news is a lot of them do. In fact, without the “stupid vote” Mitt Romney would win in a landslide. Bernard Goldberg

Big Labor’s War on Wisconsin: Rally for Rebecca online fund-raising event today!

In March, I asked for your help in supporting GOP Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, whose unprecedented recall election battle has been overlooked by the Republican establishment. We were able to give her a considerable boost, but Big Labor is pouring a last-minute infusion of coerced dues-funding into the coffers of her challenger. His name is Mahlon Mitchell and he’s president of the statewide firefighters’ union. Mitchell has busied himself threatening to boycott Wisconsin businesses over GOP Gov. Scott Walker’s collective bargaining reforms. (More here.) Kleefisch, a small businesswoman, has spent her tenure fighting for Gov. Walker’s budget/tax reform and overseeing free-market initiatives to make her state more hospitable to businesses. Michelle Malkin

Support Kleefisch. Fight like a girl!

Please kick in something by midnight if you can. Every voice — and ever cent — counts!

Big Lies in Politics

The fact that so many successful politicians are such shameless liars is not only a reflection on them, it is also a reflection on us. When the people want the impossible, only liars can satisfy them, and only in the short run. The current outbreaks of riots in Europe show what happens when the truth catches up with both the politicians and the people in the long run.

Among the biggest lies of the welfare states on both sides of the Atlantic is the notion that the government can supply the people with things they want but cannot afford. Since the government gets its resources from the people, if the people as a whole cannot afford something, neither can the government. Thomas Sowell

Rational People Fear Big Government, Not Big Business

As for greed: Between hunger for money and hunger for power, the latter is incomparably more frightening. It is noteworthy that none of the twentieth century’s monsters — Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Mao — were preoccupied with material gain. They loved power much more than money.

And that is why the left is much more frightening than the right. It craves power. Dennis Prager
