That’s the ceremony where a bunch of self-important politicians will be jockeying with each other for their moment in the sun, emceed by the head jockey himself, Mayor Michael Bloomberg. It’s an invite-only kind of affair. So who’s not invited? Members of the clergy and 9/11 first responders.

A People’s History is just not any book. It has become a widely used history book in public high schools all around the country. Although the book was first published in 1980 by Harper Collins, the leftist actor Matt Damon ensured the book’s popularity by recording and distributing CD’s of the books. Kids don’t even have to read it. They can just sit back and listen.

Anti-Americanism has long been a force at American institutions of higher education, but now it has become established in our public schools. A People’s History of the United States enjoys wide distribution and use at our high schools. There are many other such books that present America as the world’s problem, and not a source of freedom and liberty. If America’s young are taught with history that fails to discuss American Exceptionalism based upon Judeo-Christian principles and instead has a focus on America the wicked, we will have an America that we do not recognize in the next generation.

Even Obama strategist David Axelrod said, “These are not all new ideas.” Not new, but definitely failed. As National Review’s Jim Geraghty notes, “Somehow Obama made ‘the largest new investment in America’s infrastructure since the Interstate Highway System’ and yet nearly three years later the roads and bridges of his rhetoric are still falling to pieces.” When Thomas Edison repeatedly came up short in his quest to create a working light bulb, he contended he hadn’t failed but rather found 10,000 ways that didn’t work. In his quest to fix the economy, Obama has found one way that doesn’t work but seems determined to try it 10,000 times.

The draft constitution of the anti-Gadhafi forces cites “Shariah” as the “principal source of legislation.”

Shariah is Islamic law, the basis of conquest or control of non-Muslims, conscience, speech and other Western-style liberties. Not too surprisingly, rebel spokeman Mustafa Abdul Jalil, former Libyan justice minister, sports a “zabibah,” the forehead bruise of fanatical adherence to Islamic law. He also has animus toward Israel on the brain. WikiLeaks tells us, as Andrew Bostom has reported: “In the course of the discussion of the Criminal Code (with U.S. Ambassador Gene A. Cretz in 2010), Abdul Jalil abruptly changed the subject from freedom of speech to the ‘Libyan people’s concern about the U.S. government’s support for Israel.'” In 1998, Abdul Jalil grotesquely sentenced six Bulgarian nurses to death in a notorious show trial.

Such is the man touted as one of the powers-to-be in post-Gadhafi Libya, which U.S. government officials, such as Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman, promise will be “moderate,” “modern” and “secular.” But don’t laugh too hard. The joke is on us.
