Generally speaking people who live and love city life, live precariously close to being predatory fodder. I realized that one of the reasons people that live in cities are so willing for gun control is that they don’t know how much freedom they have already lost for conveniences and entertainment.

Generally speaking people that live in the city appreciate the ease of mobility, the conveniences of having work and stores nearby.

Generally speaking city dwellers earn more money than their rural peers, in a system where money rules. The city has more entertainment. In the city there are more tolerances for human eccentricities. We like to be entertained. It is the opiate of the masses. The Aztecs and Romans used human sacrifice during their waning years; we have the internet and reality TV. We have the NFL and the human train wrecks of reality shows, 24 TV, and the growing number of children connected to personal media devices in its place. In the city there are laws for everything from spitting on the sidewalk to noise ordinances. Who needs the police when everyone follows the law?

That “rural person clinging to their guns and Bible” you are criticizing is trying to save your life. Enjoy your latte.

The fire hall next to my in-laws’ house in northern New York State has a siren that can be heard for miles. “Loud” doesn’t begin to describe the sound: a shrill, relentless, piercing wail that is impossible to ignore — and can be extremely upsetting for anyone who isn’t used to it. There’s good reason for that. None of the rural towns in the area has a professional fire department, so when a fire breaks out, the siren is needed to summon volunteers. The urgent blast of that siren used to terrify my younger son, who would hide under a bed when it sounded, and angrily tell us afterward how much he hated it.

In the recent clamor over the federal debt ceiling and the Standard & Poor’s downgrade of US Treasury bonds, the Tea Party has been that fire hall siren. And a lot of liberals have been angrily telling us how much they hate it.

Those forces are well named, for the troopers who meet the arduous tests of admission are indeed special — whether they’re serving with the Navy’s SEALs or the Army’s Delta Team or Night Stalkers. Not to mention various outfits whose very names may be secret.

The problem is not the bad guys in office, it’s the bad voters who will not vote for good guys.
The “vote ‘em all out” sentiment never ceases to amaze me. Why would you want to send the message that doing the right thing would be punished? And the party favorites are left in anyway. In Pennsylvania that’s what happened. The Republican bosses got the people to screw themselves by retaining a crooked judge and senator during Pa. Clean Sweep. Where I live, the people got up in arms over two commissioners. The two bad guys quit and the voters threw out the guy who voted for them. Go figure. Hey, if you want to do the right thing or lie, cheat, and steal the voters make no distinction. And you wonder why nobody in gov’t is honest? If you don’t care, they sure won’t. Elections are coming up where you can make a difference. If everyone would vote American instead of for the lesser of two evils, the pols would get the message and good guys would run. Send whichever message you want. You’ll get the gov’t you deserve, but I deserve better.

Too many people are overlooking the candidacy of Rick Santorum. He has a proven track record that cost him the Pa. US Senate seat. He was unfairly targeted by the press and the same people who voted for Obama voted him out. As someone said on his Facebook page, “We have a troll. Things are looking up.”

Just saying, give him a look. Compare him to the newcomers to the US scene. Look at his record. It says what he really means.
